Luka Doncic won’t commit to coming over to the NBA, at least not yet. And while our initial reaction as Sacramento Kings fans is to assume the worst, Doncic’s latest comments simply echo what he’s been saying for months.
Boba Keseric, a reporter who covers Euroleague and European basketball, tweeted the following comment from Luka early Thursday.
Luka Doncic about going to NBA, at the opening press-conference in Belgrade: I’m not sure if these are my last two games. We have yet to make this decision. Perhaps after the season”.

This could cause worry. Is Doncic trying to get the Suns or the Kings to not draft him? Could he actually stay in Europe for another year? While all those are possible, it’s important to note that Luka has been saying this same thing all season.
From March, via Eurohoops.net:
It’s also worth noting that Bogdan Bogdanovic said the same thing in March of 2017.
Real Madrid is preparing to make a run at the Euroleague championship. It would be a distraction to his teammates and a slap in the face to Real Madrid fans if Doncic was focused on the NBA in the middle of a playoff run.
If Doncic is noncommittal after Real Madrid’s season ends, then we can worry. Until then, this is likely a non-story.
Update: Sean Deveney of Sporting News has confirmed that Luka Doncic isn’t trying to leverage his way into or out of any specific situations, but that he’s simply focusing on Real Madrid’s current season.
Luka Doncic agent tells SN: "Luka has stated no particular thought on any NBA teams."
In other words, @Kings fans, don't worry, he is not going to use the threat of staying in Europe as a way to dictate which team drafts him. https://t.co/z5iOcJFG7h— Sean Deveney (@SeanDeveney) May 17, 2018
Doncic has been saying the same thing in interviews in March and April of this year, but with the Kings appearing to be a likely landing spot the internet went into a stir. As expected, it was all for nothing.
