After last night's loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, it was announced by the Sacramento Kings that head coach George Karl would miss Thursday's practice to undergo a minor procedure related to the cancer in his throat. It's unknown if Karl would miss any more time after that although Kings GM Vlade Divac told the Sacramento Bee that he told Coach Karl to take all the time he would need. The Kings' next game is on Friday against the Orlando Magic, followed by a Sunday game against the Utah Jazz. Chad Iske would coach the team in Karl's absence, something he has already done once this season when Coach Karl missed a game due to stomach flu.
Karl was diagnosed with neck and throat cancer in 2010 and missed part of the 2009-10 season with the Denver Nuggets as he underwent treatment. He also has survived prostate cancer, which he was diagnosed with in 2005.
No matter what your stance is on George Karl as a coach, some things are far more important than basketball.
Get well soon, Coach Karl.
