We know that the Kings are going to be interviewing a lot of people for their open head coaching position. The sheer amount of names surrounding the job has been a little mind-boggling. But who is Vlade Divac really interested in?
According to the Sacramento Bee's Ailene Voisin, Divac's wishlist includes Warriors' assistant Luke Walton, Spurs assistant Ettore Messina and former head coaches Tom Thibodeau and Scott Brooks. All four of those names are going to be highly coveted among the coaching openings, and there's no guarantee any of them will even be available when it comes time for the Kings to pick their next coach, especially given the lengthy search and interview process they look to be having.
There is an interesting connection between Walton and Divac that Voisin pointed out; They used to be teammates on the Lakers in Vlade's final years. That connection at least should get Vlade in the door, even if it ends up just being a courtesy meeting for an old friend.
Both the Warriors and Spurs need to be finished with their playoff series and have some time off before the next round before interviews can be scheduled. Steve Kerr has indicated that all requests for Walton will be granted if the Warriors are asked and the Spurs will likely do the same for both Messina and Ime Udoka.
The Kings definitely aren't the most attractive opening, but don't count out the possibility of Sacramento landing one of the bigger names despite the drama surrounding the team.
