Kings interviewing Mike Woodson for head coaching position

By | 0 Comments | Mar 6, 2019

Adrian Wojnarowski reports:

Woodson has a 315-365 (.463) record as head coach but has also worked with both young teams and playoff teams. He even has a connection with the Sacramento Kings, being the starting shooting guard for the team when they first arrived in Sacramento.

As a coach, Woodson has a reputation as a "defensive-minded" guy, but the best any of his teams has finished in terms of defensive rating is 5th with the 57 win Knicks squad in 2011 (which was coached by Mike D'Antoni for the first half of the season) while the rest of his squads were middling to below average on that side of the floor. In fact, one of the complaints that got him fired from the Knicks were inexplicable switching schemes that sound awfully familiar.

Woodson wouldn't be the best or the worst hire, but the Kings have to hit a home run here and I don't see that in Woodson.
