Will the Kings bring Eric Moreland back?

By | 0 Comments | Mar 5, 2019

The Sacramento Kings parted ways with Eric Moreland a couple weeks ago in order to avoid guaranteeing Moreland's contract for the entire year. Moreland cleared waivers and is now free to sign with any NBA team, including possibly coming back to Sacramento, but would the Kings be interested?

Vlade Divac seemed to indicate just such a possibility last week when he went on the radio with Grant Napear. From commenter PurpleLoco's transcript of the interview:

Vlade also went to mention how he'd still like another stretch four (Duje Dukan is still largely unproven) and that he likes the flexibility of having that extra roster space in case another addition needs to be made.

Moreland, meanwhile, is currently working out for the L.A. Lakers along with 13 other prospective Free Agents. Should the Lakers not sign him and no other team is interested, that could open up the possibility of his coming to camp with Sacramento next month.

The problem with bringing back Moreland however is one of fit. With the newly drafted Willie Cauley-Stein and the return of Quincy Acy, Moreland's a bit of a redundancy, and unlikely to see much time even if he did make the team. That extra roster spot of flexibility is important as well in case the team decides to make an uneven trade.

I think Eric Moreland has NBA potential, but I struggle to see how he would be able to get the opportunity to show it on the Sacramento Kings. That's why I'd personally be surprised if the Kings did bring him back, as there are probably other teams that can offer him a greater chance to make an impact.
