Following a preseason win over the Kings last month, Robinson had some interesting things to say about his former team, mainly that he worked himself up so much when preparing for the game that he had to calm down and remember that "it’s just business," and nothing personal.
"But at the end of the day, if I get the chance to go up against them, I'm not going to hesitate to give it to them," Robinson told Chris Haynes of Comcast Sportsnet.
The comments were curious considering it was former general manager Geoff Petrie and the former owners (the Maloofs) who made the decision to trade Robinson, not anyone in the current Kings regime.
"It's nothing personal between me and the organization," Robinson said. "Come to think about it man, the whole staff of the organization is different. I never hated my teammates, and it's not the same staff members, it's not the same ownership, so I don't have nobody to hate."
A slightly different tune from his comments during the preseason. Take it as you will.
Robinson made it clear that he has nothing against Kings fans.
"I love the fans … Despite what's happened with the organization, you still got them coming out and still supporting, so that shows a lot," Robinson said. "So I don't have anything against the fans. You have have loyal fan members, people like Sign Lady, who I will always respect just because of the simple fact of loyalty."
You have to appreciate the hat tip to Sign Lady.
The verdict is still out on how good of a deal the Robinson for Patterson trade was. But, obviously, the Kings have moved on, and maybe Robinson has now too.
