Kings vs. Spurs Preview: Basketball Heaven

Let’s basketball!
By | 0 Comments | Feb 4, 2019

We interrupt your constant refreshing and searching for new trade rumors to discuss an upcoming basketball game. We apologize for the intrusion, but the NBA insists on scheduling basketball in the middle of Rich Paul trying to coerce the New Orleans Pelicans into sending Anthony Davis to Los Angeles. Rather rude of the NBA, if you ask me.

This game is the penultimate game for Sacramento before the trade deadline, so it may be one of our last chances to observe some of our favorite bench warmers. The Kings could make a big move, but it would be surprising and we’re far more likely to enjoy a mostly-unchanged lineup on February 8th. The Spurs, oddly, are in a similar boat. They’re feisty as ever despite spitting in the face of the basketball revolution and insisting that the long two’s demise has been greatly exaggerated.

Let’s talk Kings basketball!

When: Monday, February 4th, 7 PM PST

Where: Golden 1 Center, Sacramento CA

TV: NBCSCA

Radio: KHTK Sports 1140 AM

For Your Consideration

Playoff Picture: The Spurs come into Golden 1 Center tonight at 32-22, a surprising total given their slow start to the year. We shouldn’t be surprised – Gregg Popovich will always field a competitive team. The Spurs have won five straight, and the Sacramento Kings are looking to slow them down.

The gutsy win against the 76ers showed that the Kings can execute a defensive scheme against an excellent team with three heavy hitters on the floor in Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, and Jimmy Butler. We’ll look for more quick double-teams on La(Marc Gasol)dridge as they were effective against Embiid.

Something to look forward to – Spurs rookie (and good friend of De’Aaron Fox) Lonnie Walker may play for the Spurs tonight. He’s active.
The Kings are 4 games behind the Spurs in the standings. Given that context, this is a must-win!

Let’s do two episodes today-
A year ago, almost to the day, Bogdan Bogdanovic hits a crazy three over a double-team to lift the Kings over the Bulls:

From earlier in the season vs these same Spurs:

Prediction

Kings outscore the Spurs easily, but they’ll blow the lead by the end of the third quarter. Despite the Spurs hypothetical comeback, Marvin Bagley and Bogdan Bogdanovic pace the game through the early minutes of the fourth quarter and the Kings win by 10. It will snow in the Sierras tonight, and Buddy Hield will make it rain in Golden 1 Center.

Kings: 114, Spurs: 104
