There's an avalanche of names out there in the media connected to the Kings coaching vacancy, but its unclear how much of that is agent-driven and how much is substantive. Marc Stein reports that the Kings have actually had a conversation with Kevin McHale about the job as opposed to just some nebulous "interest".
McHale was last the coach of the Houston Rockets before he was fired in early 2015 for losing the Rockets locker room. He was with the Rockets since 2011, guiding his team to a winning record in every season and making the Playoffs in three of four full seasons coached. I wasn't the biggest McHale fan as a candidate for the position, but given the names that have been circulated, I'm quickly warming up to the idea. With the Lakers coaching position now opened up, competition has become stiffer for the better candidates available in the market.
Stein also reported that the Kings have interviewed Sam Mitchell for the job, with plans to interview Vinny Del Negro later this week.
In less concrete news, Stein also reported the Kings continue to have interest in interviewing Mark Jackson, Mike Woodson, Nate McMillan, Jeff Hornacek, and Luke Walton.
