As such, the NBA Draft Lottery will be an important offseason happening. (Assuming the Kings remain in Sacramento for next season.) In that lottery, the Kings will have a decent chance of moving into the top three. Kings fans obviously know how the lottery works: each team has a set number of combinations of four ping pong balls, the league draws one combination, and the team with that one picks No. 1 overall. The same happens for No. 2 and No. 3. After that, draft order is determined by losing percentage, with ties broken by coin flip.
As the only team in the No. 6 spot, the Kings have a 6.3 percent probability of winning the No. 1 pick, a 7.1 percent probability of winning the No. 2 pick and a 8.1 percent probability of winning the No. 3 pick. Overall, there's a 43 percent likelihood the Kings will pick No. 6 and a 30 percent probability the Kings will pick No. 7. (That would mean a team ahead of the Kings in the standings will have leapt into the top three.)
