For the 19th time in 20 attempts in the NBA Draft Lottery, the Kings failed to move up in the draft. However they also didn't drop, which is a silver lining. As such the Kings will remain at the 6th position in the draft.
The NBA Draft lottery mostly stuck to form this year up until the 4th pick in the draft, which the New York Knicks landed. The Minnesota Timberwolves landed the #1 pick, followed by the Los Angeles Lakers at #2 and the Philadelphia 76ers at #3.
The Kings have had the 6th pick twice in the Sacramento-era, selecting Joe Kleine in 1985 and Kenny Smith in 1986. Early mock drafts have players such as Willie Caulie-Stein, Justise Winslow, Kristaps Porzingis and Mario Hezonja in the Kings range. Karl Towns, Jahlil Okafor and D'Angelo Russell all appear to be out of Sacramento's grasp as they appear to be the consensus top-three at the moment.
The Kings might well elect to not keep this pick, but if they do, there will be good prospects available. While the Kings failed to get lucky once again, at least they avoided bad luck for once.
