The Sacramento Kings are signing Ade Murkey to a 10-day hardship deal, according to a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
The Sacramento Kings are signing G/F Ade Murkey to a 10-day hardship deal out of their NBA G League Stockton affiliate, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.

The deal will not count against the cap for the Kings, as part of the hardship exemptions the league is making to allow teams to add players to avoid game postponements. The Kings are currently missing six players to health and safety protocols, and the league recently instituted a requirement that teams must sign hardship players if they are below a certain threshhold of healthy players.
Sources: NBA teams will now be required to sign one replacement player when they have two positive tests on the roster. For three positive tests, two replacement signings are required. For four positive results or more, three hardship signings required. https://t.co/tOtwOLzyb4

The Kings already had Justin Robinson on a 10-day contract, but he has played sparingly.
Murkey was a member of the Kings Summer League team and has played well in Stockton. He’s 6’5″ and plays with a lot of energy, so hopefully he can help give the Kings a little extra guard or wing depth. Murkey has also shot very well from deep in Stockton. Through 12 games, he’s shot 47.5% from 3 on over 5 attempts per game.
Murkey’s first chance at NBA action will come tomorrow when the Kings play the Clippers.
Welcome to Sacramento!
What an amazing opportunity for guys to get a shot on the big stage.
Pun intended?
No, but good looking out!
Hopefully he’ll give the Kings a boost(er).
Do the Kings/McNair have some aversion to signing legit wings between 6’6″ and 6’9″?
In all seriousness, it would be nice to see some of the many players getting these contracts across the league make a true dent and and stick around. The G-League has done a great job in recent years in developing NBA talent and I love to see that trend continue. It may also strengthen the idea that there is more than enough talent to expand the league to 32 teams.
Apparently they don’t know Jack!
I met Jack once in Vegas- terrific guy. Funny and engaging.
I was looking at the Stockton roster and there’s only a couple guys in the “traditional wing” height range. One is Terry, who is definitely not a wing. Two others haven’t played a lot and don’t have eye popping stats, and the last one is Louis King.
Now, the Kings don’t have to stick to Stockton, but I’m guessing every quality G League guy is getting a lot of calls right now, and despite it being an NBA shot, I bet most of them still aren’t eager to come to Sacramento when there’s opportunities everywhere right now.
Before going 32, NBA might go 29, when Kings playoff drought extends to 18 and the Board of Governors say enough is enough.
I think Vivek is under the impression that agents are charging by the inch for player contracts and that the NBA doesn’t a $5 foot long option.
Murkey waters ahead for the Kings for sure….
Now go out and sign Tyreke Evans.
He played last night, so do the other players, the coaches, and any number of Warriors players & staff also need to be shelved?
It’s not easy to say this, but the NHL looks like geniuses in comparison to the NBA’s half-assedness.
Agreed, but there is no way the NBA cancels those Christmas games. That would be a ton of lost revenue.
I also wonder what impact this is having on the G-League. Is there anyone reporting on the number of positive cases they have or the effect this is having on their league? Do they have the same protocols and measures in place as the NBA?
Heh. The NFL sounds like it’s kinda sorta going to just stop testing. They’re going to have half of rosters down in the playoffs.
Under the former governmental policy of “no news is good news.”
I believe the policy was that cases will stop going up if you stop testing from them. They can then report that as good news.
What else is the league supposed to do? Like 97% of the league has their shots, and positive cases are still rolling in. Go back to not having fans? Bubble again? Make players wear masks while playing?
Be serious about testing, boosters and protocols rather than stick your fingers in your ears and say “‘Lalalala!”
Brought up from Stockton only to enter protocols.
He should provide some Ade to a Murkey roster.
So the Kings just got Ade(s)?
Can he play small for…aw, fuck it. Can he play?
He was just ok in summer league-Mitchell, King, Quetta, Terry and Metu were all better
