This is just an all-around great episode. A ton of great information and insight about potential hires, thanks to all!
Thanks for listening!
First off – super episode. A very effective round table discussion answering a broad level of concerns and perspectives. Well done all – Dynamite Jill, Wonderful Will, Terrific Tony and the incomparable Jerry Reynolds tops the list.
A list of 7 is a pretty good list – it isn’t the length of the list but the quality of the candidates. Besides, how many is enough? 7, 10, 15? It’s about finding the right person for the job. And that’s another subject for discussion.
If we could manufacture Will’s ideal – he seemed to want to “split the baby” – or hire two candidates – but I am wondering – if that ideal person; say, for argument’s sake, Darvin Ham is that One. Why would Coach Ham decide on Sacramento? It makes me regard Monte McNair’s position- he has to sell the Kings and the awful legacy of Vivek along with his current roster to someone deemed to be “a great candidate”. That’s a tough sell in my book.
Sacramento is not the only franchise looking for a Head Coach right now or post playoff (see Jazz, Utah, Hornets, Charlotte). If you are the most desirable of prospects, why pick the Kings? I am not being dismissive, I am trying to be realistic. It’s an complex and challenging task that GM McNair has before him.
Great episode, thanks for your work.
You are not dismissive at all. You are realistic and pragmatic. Remember Steve Van Gundy.
Your question kept going through my mind as I listened to the podcast. A lot of the coaching prospects seem like talented, decent people. I’d think, why subject these guys to the whims of Vivek? For the younger coaches, would a stint in Sacramento destroy their desire to coach?
On the other hand, I think people in the league understand that the Kings are a special circumstance. If you did not do well in Sacramento, it might not be your fault.
I feel the same way about my favorite Kings players from time to time during the usual disastrous season, “God, I hope they trade player X because he deserves better.”
Thanks for listening!
Thanks for the great info . Tremendous help and truly enjoyed the backgrounds and some of the questions that need to be asked . Hope they are, but worry it will be a PR type approach .
