Kings Pulse: Exploring Turner & Sabonis Deals w/ Mark Schindler

What would it take to trade for Myles Turner or Domantas Sabonis?
By | 12 Comments | Jan 15, 2022

Trade season is here! The upcoming episodes of Kings Pulse will be focused on potential trade candidates for the Sacramento Kings as the February 10th deadline approaches.

Many of the episodes will feature a guest who can bring some perspective on another team. I kicked this off with Mark Schindler, who covers the Indiana Pacers, for a conversation centered around Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis.

The beginning of the conversation is Mark explaining what has gone wrong in Indiana this season. He helped give a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis as well as what return the Pacers could potentially look for in a deal for either one of them.

Personally, I love the fit of Myles Turner – as I explain in the podcast. To put it simply, he’s one of the best rim protectors in the league and Sacramento desperately lacks in that department. On top of that, Turner is a respected three-point shooter and added spacing will help optimize De”Aaron Fox on the offensive end of the floor.

Some would be concerned or unsure with how Turner fits alongside Richaun Holmes, but Mark and I both explain why we like that idea for the Kings. Also, I was shocked by what Mark thought of as a fair deal for Turner…

As for Domantas Sabonis, obviously, the asking price would be significantly steeper than Turner’s. Although, Mark does not think it would be impossible for Sacramento to acquire Sabonis while also keeping Fox and Tyrese Haliburton on the roster.

Throughout these episodes, it’s also useful to get an outside perspective on Sacramento’s potential assets: Harrison Barnes, Buddy Hield, Davion Mitchell, Marvin Bagley, and draft picks.

The Kings Pulse podcast is available on all major listening platforms. Every episode is now also being uploaded to YouTube!

Not a fan of Turner ! He blocks shots but no post game, limited passer and poor defending on switches ! Do not think he would be an upgrade !

Agree. Turner is one of those guys that looks good in a uniform but really is a big underachiever. I don’t like the trade giving up Mitchell in the deal. Those rookie contracts are really valuable and I think Mitchell is going to be a heck of player. Lastly, the Kings are not going anywhere this year with or without Turner and then after next year we are faced with having to resign him and good luck with that. The Kings need to start this rebuild by first moving Barnes and Buddy for whatever draft capital and cap space they can get. After that I would then consider moving Holmes for draft capital. I would only then consider moving Fox if we can get a haul of draft picks at least two mid to high first rounders and young player. Maybe to Boston for Williams, Pritchard, and two first rounders. In fact, I’d love to start the off-season with Haliburton, Mitchell, Pritchard, Williams and a whole bunch of draft picks and cap space. Put out a young, exciting, motivated bunch of guys who can grow together.

Make the team an attractive place to be first. Then it will be easier to do trades and sign free agents.

Actually that seems backward ! The Kings became attractive after signing Divac, Pollard, Barry as Free Agents and trading for Webber in 98-99!

Remember that time we could have drafted Sabonis in 2016 but Vlade ‘Whiteboard’ Divac went with Marquese Chriss instead?

Good times…

Vlade actually traded down to 13 & took PapaG. Also got the pick that became Skal & the rights to Bogi.

I remember Vlade being enamored with Sabonis and rumor that he was Vlade’s pick.

Vlade probably thought Sabonis would still be available when he traded down from 8th to 13th. Of course Sabonis got picked 11th and we all know the rest of the story.

A non-meddling owner, first of all.
