Kings Pulse Draft Profiles: Jaden McDaniels and Josh Green with Bryant West

The Kings Pulse crew is joined by Bryant West to talk about Jaden McDaniels.
By | 12 Comments | Jul 8, 2020

Continuing our series profiling 2020 NBA Draft prospects, Rich and I were joined by The Kings Herald’s draft expert, Bryant West, to speak on Jaden McDaniel from Washington and Josh Green from Arizona.

Bryant recently posted an in-depth piece on Jaden McDaniels and if his potential upside is worth the risk that everyone should go give a read. We speak more on the specifics of the 6’10€, scrawny shot creator that will more than likely hear his name called within the first round of the draft. I have been an advocate for the Sacramento Kings selecting a player with a high floor, and McDaniels is certainly not that guy but with his high release, decent handle, smooth shooting stroke, and promising defense (when motivated) there is an argument to be made for taking a risk on his upside. We all came to an agreement on the pod whether or not Sacramento should be the team to do so.

Josh Green is a completely different story. Josh Green will come into the NBA and make a positive impact on the defensive end with some outstanding lateral quickness and reactions along with a neverending motor that Bryant and I are absolute suckers for. While the defense for Green is more than likely going to be impressive at the next level, he has a limited offensive game highlighted by questions surrounding his three ball – Green shot 36.1 percent from three during his freshman year but has a worrisome form and volume. If the Kings ever decide to return to directing their focus to a high pace offense, Josh Green could fit in there well as he showed off some nice speed and athleticism in the open court at Arizona. We debated if Green is a player that should be considered by the front office at the end of the lottery over the likes of Saddiq Bey or Aaron Nesmith.

Let us know where you agree or disagree with our assessments of Jaden McDaniels and Josh Green. On the next draft profile episode on Kings Pulse, we plan on diving into two big men in Isaiah Stewart (Washington) and Xavier Tillman (Michigan State). We will gladly take suggestions on who you would like to hear us dive into next, and if you are interested in coming on the show and sharing your draft thoughts we would love to make that happen!

Jaden, Jaden, Jaden!

what the conspiracy is going on here? Is this Vivek’s dollars talking? And why is it Greg’s fault?

Hey guys. How is everyone doing? Took me a while to find this site since StR has been a ghost town.

Anyhow, not a big fan of Jaden McDaniels. Not sure how I feel about Josh Green. Looks really good on the defensive end but again that shot is a little bit concerning. If we draft at around the 10th to 14th range, I would love them to get Devin Vassell. Checks all the boxes and plays winning basketball.

Green reminds me of Troy Brown Jr. from last year. With a bit less evidence of present playmaking ability. Kinda the poorer man’s version of Okoro.

I think there’s a chance. Vecenie’s latest has him going 11th in his latest mock. The guys at ESPN (Givony & Schmitz) have him around 16th. Parrish at CBSSports, 16. NBC has him at 10. Somewhere I can’t remember or find I did see him as high at 4 or 5! I think ultimately there’s a ton of uncertainty in this draft. Vassell’s place as a relatively low-bust-risk with a well-defined NBA role may vault him a bit higher in this draft than usual, but I don’t think him falling to the Kings would be too surprising. I do think some people are talking themselves into him having much more playmaking upside than his present skills or performance suggest.

I’m a big fan and think he’s being pretty seriously underrated. I mean, I’m not taking him at 12-13. But I’d be thrilled to have him at 35 or late in the 1st.

Vecenie has him at 37 in his latest mock. But 22 on his big board. Which means he agrees that Tillman is kind of your classic type that gets perpetually underrated in the draft. His physical measurements and athleticism don’t stand out. He doesn’t put at a ton of PPG to draw the attention of the SportsCenter world. But he knows how to play and does all the things that make the game easier for his teammates.
