On this episode of the Kings Pulse podcast, we were joined by Greg Wissinger to get his perspective on Vlade Divac the player compared to Divac the GM.

We also debated what the best direction is for Sacramento moving forward, mention potential GM candidates to keep an eye on, and his draft philosophy after winning the coin flip with New Orleans for the 12th best odds.

The Kings Pulse podcast can be found on all major listening platforms.

I just don’t even know why we would entertain the idea of Scott Perry coming here as GM. Especially since he may be on the chopping block in New York after only 3 years there. Couldn’t attract any big names there, even though yes it is the Knicks. But we are the Kings…

Also we talked about it in a different thread, but in the time Perry was here, he helped sign Z-Bo and Hill. He also was likely in on the decision to trade back and draft JJ and Giles with Mitchell on the board. (Maybe he was part of the whole “taking the ball out of Fox’s hands mentality). And by the way, we’ve talked about this before, but drafting Fox at #5 wasn’t a huge accomplishment. Many experts had him going even earlier, and it’s likely if Fox was picked at 4 by the Suns, we’d have went with Josh Jackson.

And then in Perry’s brief time with the Knicks, he got fleeced for Porzingis. He might get a couple later firsts out of that deal.

So yeah, no thanks on Perry. I’m sure he’s a good dude. But we can do better if Vivek can stop with the meddling (a big if).

Definitely no Perry for me too.

rule #1 – do not hire someone with previous ties with the Kings.
rule #2 – no cronyism. Just because one is a friend of Dumars or Canatella, then he’s in.
Hire somebody who’s gonna start from scratch. Somebody with a vision and philosophy experienced and learned by being previously enployed by stable and successful organizations like the Spurs or the Heat.

Still very convoluted.. what is Dumars role? He’s going to be heading a search that he wants to end up with himself? He’s going to be the GM for 1 year (and someone will be hired next year)? What will be the dynamic with Dumars and the next FO head?

I feel the same. It could really hamper our ability to bring in a sought-after GM prospect if Vivek/Matina and/or Dumars won’t give them the autonomy to build their own team.

So what’s the plan here? Hire a GM and have Dumars work above them?

We hired the firm, let them do the search. What do we need Joe for?

Joe should be nothing more than another interview for the job. Hire the best candidate and give them the reins to make all the basketball decisions. It’s what good organizations do. And it’s not that fucking hard.

Thanks for the analysis. With all due respect, I think the way you are evaluating the roster is fundamentally flawed. A lot of your analysis revolves around whether the Kings can realistically get the 8 seed, which is a good question to ask, but more fundamental is whether the Kings even have an nba basketball team. The result of your analysis is to put Bogdan Bogdanovic on the market for whatever you can get because “he does not fit Fox’s timeline”. Ricky Rubio does not fit Devin Booker’s timeline but was Booker happy to have Rubio’s playmaking on the floor. Yes. Bogi is only 28. He easily has 3 good years left in him. Ask Fox whether he wants to play with another guy who can play PG or SG, on the ball or off the ball, adds playmaking, or whether Fox would want to play basketball with a bunch of guys who lack fundamentals. Everyone on the team benefits from having Bogi on the floor. He makes good passes, he finds cutters, he can play a two man game with a big, he can probe the defense, he can space to floor, he can do almost everything on offense. Buddy Hield does not even have guard skills. His game is closer to Peja’s game than a backcourt player. If you get rid of Bogi, and other playmakers like Giles (hopefully we still have a shot at keeping Giles), and you put out a bunch of guys still learning how to play basketball on the court, this won’t even be an nba team. And then everyone will thank you for Bogi and Giles after they fleece you.
