Buddy Hield Trade
Buddy Hield to New Orleans for Ball and Redick. Both Ball and Redick are underperforming and there were rumors NO wanted to get rid of Lonzo over the offseason. Is Ball and Redick on an expiring too much for Hield? I like this for the Kings because it would move Haliburton into the starting lineup and I like Lonzo's fit next to both Fox and Haliburton. New Orleans could use some shooting and that's what Buddy does best.
I think the Kings would do this from an asset perspective, but I don't think the Pels do. You need a real good reason to trade a good player on his rookie deal, and Buddy doesn't fill that reason.
@adamsite Ball's rookie deal ends at the end of this season and if they don't want him they probably try and get rid of him by the deadline, no?
I like this for getting off Buddy's contract. Lonzo is a good fit and a good defensive player. Dont think he would be happy playing with Walton again lol.. and if we try to resign him, what does he cost?
I don't like it, at all. Doesn't move the needle for this team. I would rather take on a couple of prospects and mid first round pick. Ball completely disappeared in the bubble and is wildly inconsistent on offense. He's a plus on Defense. This is Vlade type move that really does not help the team long term.
Nope...IMHO this would be a salary dump with no other upside except to send both guys out for 2nds. I see Buddy going to Philly, Boston, or another Eastern team looking to keep up with NJ. IF Nets implode, the market for Buddy is slim, and a trade similar to your proposal will make sense/might happen. We are best to wait until near the deadline, when the buyers and sellers are clear.
@selecaokoj I don't think you're getting a first rounder for Buddy. Unless a contender becomes desperate for shooting at the deadline
@playoffmodet That's also what I'm wondering- how much Lonzo gets paid this offseason. At this point he's looking like a Marcus Smart type of player but if his shooting continues to be as bad as its been this season, I don't think he gets a ton of money but probably something comparable to Smart's 4/52 million dollar deal.
@wilbur10 I'm not sure about Marcus Smart but I can see a Ricky Rubio with some more defense. I also think 4/52 would be pretty solid. To @selecaokoj's point, I don't see this as a "Vlade" move because Vlade would keep Buddy until the wheels fall off.
I always liked the idea of Lonzo and Fox, not Lonzo vs Fox. Haliburton definitely plays the way I saw Lonzo with Fox. I think Lonzo's playmaking off the bench would be really good for this team because he is a lead guard who wants to get others involved. Salary would be the only thing holding me back. Plus getting rid of Buddy's contract would allow McNair to bring in his guys, assuming he doesn't want to keep Buddy and his shooting.
@playoffmodet He reminds me of Smart without all the rah rah shit. He really isn't much of a lead guard either, he doesn't create off the bounce a ton but his vision is really good and he's unselfish which is where his assists come from.
Buddy has been visited about on Celtics Blog, but the yeam is more looking for a wing. I don't think Smart is available unless overwhelmed this year. Other guards beyond Brown are undersized and Smart's defense is needed.
