My out of left field vote for unexpected starting lineup is Fox, Heurter, Okpala, Barnes, Ox. Okpala in there to guard Lebron.

This is the first preseason game. If he’s making personnel decisions based on match-ups, we’ve already lost the plot.

I don’t know man, I think theres some logic in this as well. If thats what you brought Okpala in to do, guard the elite SF’s in this league then… Put him out there with the A team and see how it goes on both defense and offense. “Thats what pre season is for” no?

It makes sense if one their goals for the night is to see if OZ is capable of guarding elite wings with at least some competence since LBJ probably won’t play much beyond the first quarter if he plays at all. I don’t know if Brown would alter the first starting lineup so drastically just to check that box, but its preseason so I’d have no issue with it.

I’m ready for this team to prove the haters wrong. I just watched a Western Conference predictions video where someone said the Kings would finish 11th and their analysis was essentially “Yeah the roster is good, but it’s the Kings.”

This is simply the last thing there’s left to point to when it comes to why the Kings shouldn’t be expected to compete. And after 16 years, that’s fair enough.

Everyone is going to continue to look straight past this coaching staff and roster until the Kings force them to pay attention, and personally, I can’t wait.

Yeah, that’s lazy and annoying. That said, somewhere around 10th or 11th place is a reasonable projection even if you completely remove Kangz history from the equation. Obviously, lots of things can happen. Murray could be a star out of the gate. A couple teams above them could have injury problems. But purely on true talent level, around 10th or 11th looks about right.

Yeah that’s fine. It was just frustrating to watch every other team given minutes long consideration as to their season’s prospects and then the Kings was just “meh, throw em at #11.”

It just comes with years of ineptitude, but I’m tired of the casual slander. I told some basketball friends of mine that the Kings will make the playoffs this year and I was SHOCKED at how quickly they jumped down my throat. You’d think after 16 years of sucking the standard feeling toward us would be apathy and maybe even appreciation for the underdog, but it’s not.

Saying the Kings suck is a full-on meme, and it will continue to be until we don’t anymore. People WANT us to suck because they think it’s fun to laugh at our failures and want the meme to last forever. But I’m ready for the Fox-Sabonis Kings to change the narrative!

I don’t understand why people keep complaining about slander and disrespect from the media.

Unless the Kings actually show that they’re good, they haven’t done anything to earn respect.

If you want a different narrative, get the results to actually change the narrative. It’s that simple.

See, I don’t think people want the Kings to suck. At least no any more than fans of team A want every non-team A team to suck. I mean, the one stretch of time the Kings were actually good, they were the toast of the league. Getting tons of covers. Selling jerseys like mad. Heck, three seasons ago when they showed a tiny bit of life towards the end of the season, they were making all kinds of “up-and-coming” and “Teams to watch next season” lists. Personally, I think people want the Kings to be good (as long as they aren’t better than THEIR teams). People love that shit. There are countless feel good movies about exactly that story.

What they aren’t going to get is the benefit of the doubt. Which is fine. That’s something you earn.

And that’s why I’m excited to watch this Kings team earn it this season!

I legitimately believe our 8 man rotation can compete with all but the top 6-8 teams in the league. Comparatively, the Blazers are a 30 win team without Dame. The Lakers are a 30-35 win team without 1/2 of Bron/AD.

I just want to watch these Kings demolish the teams that the whole nation is thoughtlessly putting ahead of us in their projections. Let’s cut the conjecture and play basketball is what I say! I believe the team’s play will speak for itself.

I’m excited to watch them play too! I’m just not willing to build expectations on other teams having injury issues but the Kings not. We probably shouldn’t mention that neither of the Kings two best players has played more than 62 games in a season since 2018-19.

Solid point.

The only upside in that is this teams depth which feels substantial in comparison to most teams. I could just be bloated from too much purple koolaid though

You know what annoys me the most about this kind of take?… It’s coming from the “bold/Hot Take” analysts that like to act as they know it all. They will hot take a guy into being a scrub or hot take a team into being shitty but VERY VERY VERY rarely do you ever hear one of them “Hot Take” an underdog into a great season. It’s pathetic and it only reinforces how lame the hot take culture has become.

My hot take… The Kings Will be fighting for the 8th spot and if they end up at 11 it will be a very small window (4-5 games) that separates them from the 7th seed. West is going to be TIGHT AF!!

At long last we’ve reached summer’s end.
Get a glimpse of how these Kings will blend.
With a new coaching staff,
We could learn by the half
Even though this game’s only pretend!

Let’s go Kings! Granted this is only a preseason game, but can the team make a legitimate playoff push for 2022/2023? I sure hope this is a fun season.

Let’s say the Kings fall back a step or two, or stay in the 35 win range? I would suspect if this version of the Kings doesn’t compete or make considerable strides this season, De’Aaron Fox is most surely playing for another team next season.

We need our 30 million dollar man to earn his keep.

IMO, Fox’s contract isn’t really the problem. It’s about right for his impact. He’ll be tied for 28th highest paid player this year. I’d personally put him closer to 40th or so, but that’s only a difference of a couple million in annual salary.

Obviously, it also helps the team building that the Kings best player is on one of the better deals in the league.

I think the bigger issues are his role and expectations, and how those influence the team building approach.

Just think, it was just over a year ago that the Kings were rumored to be trading Buddy Hield to the Lakers for Kuzma and change, before the they traded for Westbrook. Now the Lakers are still rumored to be chasing Buddy, only this time it’s with Westbrook and they are rumored to be considering picks included.

If the Lakers give up picks to get Buddy and Turner, can we give them a Kangz type nickname? Likerz, perhaps?

OT: Hollinger’s Kings predictions for the season. Behind a paywall, but final prediction: 37-45 and 10th place in the West.

For 2022-23, I don’t think this is one of the top eight teams in the West, but getting to the Play-In Tournament is a completely reasonable goal.

Let’s see if Paul George’s comments on the Kings giving anyone a “rough night” is anywhere close to true. Attending a game last year, the only thing that gave me a rough night was the food at Golden One.
