NBA shortens COVID quarantine length, Kings may be getting players back earlier than expected

The NBA's new guidelines allows players to return as soon as 6 days, instead of the previous 10.

The NBA is reducing the required quarantine for players who test positive for COVID-19, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

In Woj’s article (linked in tweets above) he outlines more of the specifics of the league’s testing and how a player will be considered cleared:

The decision to shorten the quarantine to six days, sources said, is based upon expert research and data — including the league’s own — that shows no one with a cycle threshold (CT) over 35 has shown to be infectious again after five or six days, sources said.

CT measures how many times a test has to cycle to find the virus in an individual. For example, a 35 CT is fainter than a 20 CT. The NBA and NBPA has relied on data from its own infectious disease experts, the CDC and models and research in the United Kingdom.

The NBA’s change aligns with new CDC guidance today that also shortens recommended quarantine times.

A shortened quarantine window should have a positive impact for the Kings. Davion Mitchell, Alex Len and Neemias Queta should all be at or near the end of their 6-day windows, as long as they aren’t having more severe cases.

Good teams’ fans: “Those guys can win us a championship!”
Average teams’ fans: “Those guys are pretty good!”
Bad teams’ fans: “Those guys aren’t very good.”
Kangz fans: “Those guys are easy to root for!” (translation: they don’t win much, but hey, they actually try, and that’s unusual around here!)

Sigh. Kangz.

Can they just shorten the Kangz’s season?

TKH can just talk about college draftees, or NFL playoffs!
I got KC Chiefs for $500 to win $4500 for the Superbowl!
Of course I’ll hedge $100 to $1500 if they make it to the championship.
(versus my 2nd team – the Packers)

To be fair, the Kings season was over in the first week.

Too bad we didn’t have them back yesterday. We would’ve won by 25 instead of losing by 25.

In all fairness, this entire franchise should be quarantined in some deli freezer for the next five years.

…..Kings may be getting players back earlier than expected
Unfortunately it won’t make a difference. Kings will end up this season having a W/L percentage around .400, miss the playoffs and end up with the 7th or 8th pick in next year’s draft. Oh happy days…..
