He is going to the rim aggressively and mixing in decent outside shooting. The mix that has worked for him in his first four years. Playing much better so far tonight.
Both are valuable, valuable assets. They are playing excellently this year. I can’t help but think Buddy’s better play is his role as sixth man, but more importantly, perhaps, the influence of Doug Christie. He is fighting his way through screens on the high side, passing the ball up court rather than dribbling, rebounding and hustling on defense. Real growth in his game.
Harrison? A pros pro. Couldn’t ask for a better influence on a team or a harder worker that has a multi faceted game on offense and tough on defense, a really good rebounder.
Me too. He thinks he can sink every shot he takes. That’s a blessing and a curse. He would improve his efficiency with better shot choices, as you say.
Does Fox even enjoy playing basketball at this point? I see no joy. Nothing. Maybe it’s off the court stuff we don’t know about, but on the court, he’s been trash for the most part.
I was ripped on this board for insinuating the same a few games back. They can all deny as much as they want, but he’s is NOT the same guy. And it’s pretty darn clear.
OK….getting close to goodby. It is time for goodby. My son and I have an agreement that as soon as the Kings go down by 20 we can watch something else without our fandom being questioned. Good night!
He’s easy to root for and I wanted him to become THAT guy but this season is really putting to rest the thought of Fox being the main star on a contending team. You just aren’t gonna be a threat with a high usage guard who simply can’t shoot
Kings about to be saddled with one of the worst contracts in the NBA by the time this season ends. This kind of production is about to cost them over $30M a year for the next 4 seasons.
Okay, you need to shake up your team to start the fourth quarter. You look down the bench and see Luka, er, Bagley sitting forlornly on the bench. You think for a second.
This is why I’m waiting to buy tickets to take my family to a game. It’s overpriced for this garbage. There’s gonna be some deals when the Kings are only a possible play-in team.
Well, that’s the redundant and repetitive Mark Jones, but when he said that about Phoenix being the same team that went to the NBA Finals, and I yelled, “And this is the same team that had two nine-game losing streaks last season!”
All I remember from Metu is the three times he was stripped going to the hoop, and the turnover at the end of the game that forfeited even a chance at winning. He played OK defensively.
Last season, I saw how quickly Jones moved his feet on defense, pretty good for a seven-footer. Hell, Whiteside was out of the league before he got his shit together, maybe Jones has enough talent and motivation to become a rotation guy.
Looks like another trap game.
How bad will Fox be tonight?
Uh oh… an actual game thread…. That’s a bad omen.
Is this the game thread?
Well, this is a great start…
I’m out. I already see a wire to wire loss.
McGee ran right over Fox. Chris Paul would’ve fell down and got the foul
Putrid D putrid rebounding
Looks like they learned nothing from yesterday
what are we doing starting harkless?
Its bad watching so far
This is going the be ugly
The ugly games are usually the ones that are unexpected
Louis King…Hello!
He’s not on the roster today.
But he’s on a two way contract, right?
I know he’s in Stockton, but they can recall him at anytime.
Well, I know that. They probably had a reason for not recalling him. Maybe the reason is simple: They didn’t know enough in advance they’d need him.
True
Year 5 and there’s no tangible improvement from the FT line for Fox.
Barnes is going to have to go for 50.
And 50 boards
I hate to say this. but I don’t want to trade Buddy right now unless we get someone like Simmons for him.
McNair agrees
So do I. There would be no spacing whatsoever without him.
TD be on fire so far
Phantom moving screen on Holmes.
Apparently the Chris Paul rule changes don’t apply to him.
Where’s Hali?
Back spasms. Not available.
Thanks Nate, wasn’t around when the game first started. Go Kings
Metu. Let’s go!
Kings’ offense is stupid. Nobody moves around.
stoopid
Except when the do, as they are now.
Fox looking better right now..
That was a strong take to the basket and finish
He is going to the rim aggressively and mixing in decent outside shooting. The mix that has worked for him in his first four years. Playing much better so far tonight.
HB you re the man
What is this, an actual new look? Two guards with Barnes at the three and Metu as a stretch four? Easy now, Luke.
Goaltending?
Goaltending is an absurd foul.
Buddy playing well enough to be in the 6th man Award discussion and Barnes as an All Star.
Certainly not something I was anticipating…..and I generally wasn’t of the belief you give either away. Still not. These performances are exactly why.
Excellent points. I think they are the single biggest reason the Kings are improved.
Well, when Buddy isn’t taking heat checks anyway. His shot selection more than anything drives me really crazy.
Me too. He thinks he can sink every shot he takes. That’s a blessing and a curse. He would improve his efficiency with better shot choices, as you say.
And he came into the game with a 60.6 TS%!
I have never seen a single occurance when flying into the stands on a three point attempt has actually resulted in a block
Lucky Holmes isn’t injured with a push in the back while airborne.
Dirty play
Yeah…
Good decision
What a terrible last few seconds by the Kings….
Jeeze Fox that was ugly.
I hate when the Kings stall working the clock for the last shot. That was incredibly ugly.
Don’t do that again De’Aaron, please.
Should’ve given the ball to Buddy…
Fox is the champion of doing the dumbshit let-the-ball-roll to save time on the 24 second clock.
Good to have TD shooting well again.
And Davion played lock down D on Booker
The worst part of Buddy Ball
God we look like shit…again.
Poop pellets
Another inspiring halftime talk by Luke
Luke’s halftime speech – “Remember the third quarter is coming up. Time to forget how to play”
Fat Fox Fiasco
Welp
CP3 initiated that crap.
Yeah…..welp. Looked like it was going to be a good 2nd half. Now…..not so much
CP3 is such a dumb shit talker.
So now Kayte’s narrative is that the Kings are struggling to play without their playmaker Hali? Give me a F-ing break.
She’s a shill
Free Marvin
Jeeze yeah why not?
Marc Jones stfu!!!
This isn’t ESPN
I like Jones.
Cogent and pertinent numbers
Egregious pejorative turnover
I think he calls the game with a thesaurus open.
They came out flat and you could see it the way they just accepted a slower plodding lack of aggressive ball movement offense.
Davion…….I love this kid
Remember all those good vibes from a couple of games back?
Yeah, nobody does.
It’s gonna get very dark in Kingsland.
For you
Positive Dave lives.
Negative Nancy descends.
Enjoy the ride, Thelma.
Time to recycle a fat comment Louise.
Keep rooting for Fat Fox. He needs your love.
There you have it….recycle, repeat. Good on you. On cue.
WTF did Luke tell them at halftime?
Davion!!!
Marvin must be in a dog house inside of a dog house inside of a dumpster fire.
Plug ugly
Are you there, God? It’s me, De’Aaron Fox. Can I please hit a shot tonight? Can I at least not turn the ball over any more?
Fox gets the ball on the run, slows down, and turns it over.
2fat2run
Does Fox even enjoy playing basketball at this point? I see no joy. Nothing. Maybe it’s off the court stuff we don’t know about, but on the court, he’s been trash for the most part.
I was ripped on this board for insinuating the same a few games back. They can all deny as much as they want, but he’s is NOT the same guy. And it’s pretty darn clear.
Yerah, that looks like the play Luke drew up
Come on. Who doesn’t agree? This Kings team should not be this bad.
I agree. This is shit
I also agree, it should not be this bad
We have good players on this team! They shouldn’t suck so bad!
They shouldn’t. You are right. They were awful flat on the first possession after the half. That is coaching, as you have noted.
The entire team looks uninspired…it all starts and ends with fox…he is supposed to be the “leader”
By putting it in quotes, are you saying that Fox isn’t supposed to be the leader?
Clarity!
read between the quotation marks, you contrarian you
Same shit different year
Look how much they’re sagging off Holmes on offense!
This team just feels different.
Walton back on hot seat in 3-2-1…
Yes please.
Buddy dribbling into crowd. This shit is on Walton.
OK….getting close to goodby. It is time for goodby. My son and I have an agreement that as soon as the Kings go down by 20 we can watch something else without our fandom being questioned. Good night!
Lol! Your son is smart!
Bagley can only get on court when team is down by 35. It’s in his contract
Haha!
I thought that was him getting stripped on two straight plays? Oh wait, no, that was Metu
Was the crowd booing? Because they should be
They were booing pretty loudly.
He’s easy to root for and I wanted him to become THAT guy but this season is really putting to rest the thought of Fox being the main star on a contending team. You just aren’t gonna be a threat with a high usage guard who simply can’t shoot
Teams have adjusted and know what to expect from him now…so now he looks like trash
Kings about to be saddled with one of the worst contracts in the NBA by the time this season ends. This kind of production is about to cost them over $30M a year for the next 4 seasons.
Is John Wall still available?
You can’t possibly be serious.
Exhibit Westbrook. But without the D.
Another halftime where a superior coach makes adjustments, and Walton watches it all happening with the look of a Neanderthal seeing a helicopter.
Lol literally
I’m tired of hearing people stick up for Walton. How much evidence do you need?
Is this where Monte breaks out the Ted Lasso “Believe” tweet again?
Yikes. Suns just giving it to each and every player on the floor
Okay, you need to shake up your team to start the fourth quarter. You look down the bench and see Luka, er, Bagley sitting forlornly on the bench. You think for a second.
Nahhhhhhhhhhhhh.
We’ll be fine after our out of time-out play creating genius coach watches the tape.
Lmao outscored 31-12 in the 3rd
This is why I’m waiting to buy tickets to take my family to a game. It’s overpriced for this garbage. There’s gonna be some deals when the Kings are only a possible play-in team.
I looked for tickets the other night and still saw $150 bucks apiece for lower bowl.
Nope.
Exactly. You’re getting duped if you pay that.
It’s all about the Kings Pass
Don’t buy tickets please
Horrible quarter of basketball. Empty the bench.
Break some Bones Jones.. jk
Jeez, if they had beaten Indy I would have given them a pass on the shitty performance tonight. But nope. Same ol squad.
https://giphy.com/gifs/lw-I6zX7dJYq3rPnDNwR9
DJones moving those feet!
So JR is ahead of Bags? Wtf is this shit?
I mean, we’re down two guards, why would you bring in Bagley?
Why not? We’re also down a coach.
Fair point.
Why would you bring in Metu?
Metu stripped a third time going to the hoop
Why is Barnes coming back in?
Why is Fox in?
To lose weight
Ouch!
His asset was his speed. Still got plenty of time in season to get it back.
Can we just have the Summer League team? At least they have passion and are fun to root for.
Well JM is out there.
Kaminsky looked just like that with the Kings
I mean really, look how the Suns are playing with who they have on the floor!
Kings announcers like the way Fox is playing.
Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha
Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha
Vivek is in their earpieces.
The Suns showing why they are so good….nice spin Draper.
Well, that’s the redundant and repetitive Mark Jones, but when he said that about Phoenix being the same team that went to the NBA Finals, and I yelled, “And this is the same team that had two nine-game losing streaks last season!”
Jeeze…come on Luke. Pull Fox already.
Metu to Jones. MeLike
Nice pass by Metu
There’s that signature Frank the Tank layup.
Kings believe.
Food Coma Fox has lulled Suns in coma
Use your words.
Barnes with 7 shots. Amazing coaching. Amazing distribution by your max PG.
The shots where he gets fouled are still shots taken, if not in the statistical sense. He’s taken eleven free throws.
Half have not been shooting. So 10 shots. For your clearly best player. Fox with 18.
He averages 11.3 for his career. I’ve got no problem with Barnes taking more shots if he’s got them, but your argument is empty.
As if he shouldn’t be getting 18 and Fox 10 this season. Spare me.
Another shot for Barnes on an assist from Fox. You have excellent timing.
Should be happening all night, every night.
He averages over six dimes a game, we’re all very sorry that they can’t all be to Barnes.
Wow, six whole dimes! While shooting 39-18-69 and leading the team in attempts. Supermax him and keep it up then.
I hope it’s not too late..
How long have you been a fan of this team?
Since they moved here from Kansas City, how about you smart ass?
Yes run Fox run
Lol Phoenix shouldn’t have left the starters out that long
This is the game that vaults Fox into superstar status.
I had too much to drink
This is such a dumb comment. I’m sorry.
He chose his namesake wisely.
That’s a lazy excuse.
No point in not trying to attempt a comeback.
So you’re saying there’s a chance…
Metu has a real passion for the game. He should get Harkless’s minutes.
Aye, Moe Harkless, that’s what went wrong tonight.
But Metu should get more minutes.
That’s not what I said now was it?
Food Coma Fox getting air
You’re pushing rope with your nicknames.
Food Coma Fox disagrees with your assessment
Fox walks the ball up the floor!
Metu being a pest. MeLike
Refs making it close.
Food Coma Fox is eating
4 minute effort fox
Harrison steamrolled Booker. That’s an awful call
oh look defense
it works
That was an offensive foul.
yep
yeah
This quarter is as good as the third was bad. Somehow Walton walked into the right sliding glass door, lineup-wise.
Haha!
Walton has decided to challenge the challenge
He watched the tap!
Kayte couldn’t see through her rose colored glasses that was an offensive foul.
What fans don’t understand is …
hate the fox trot up court
Food Coma Fox chokes
Who didn’t see that coming
To paraphrase Mark Jones, the law of averages says De’aaron Fox is a 70% free throw shooter
From hero to goat, Fox and his fucking free throws.
Both free throws. Geez
Same old story. They hustled too late because they weren’t motivated by a coach with a game plan.
Yup!
Game whaaaaa?
tryptophan
better nickname for Fox
tryptophan fox
I LIKE it
This game convinced me to trade Fox
I foul Fox immediately and put him on line. It’s not even a question.
bring haliburton out for special three services
“Resurrected…reincarnated…”
God, shut the fuck up.
Those words are odious
I kept waiting for him to add “offensive” or something.
Wow Book
It’s sickening that a positive narrative will be pulled from this game.
I’m going to stick to the narrative that that third quarter was absolutely pathetic
OT for Fox to lose more lbs
great design
Food Coma Fox with the horrible pass is the topper.
Buddy explaining to Walton that he has a challenge.
WHAT THE F WAS THAT?
A great last call from our hall of shame coach.
A pass to Metu on the low block?
luke acting like the whole game was by design
Definition of moral victory
Booker will never miss two frees for the rest of his life.
Bagley would have caught that.
Who’s Bagley?
The jack ass who was guaranteed a starting spot for three years.
Kayte: You’ve got to hand it to Devin Booker.
Oh, the guy who just clanked two free throws?
i want to be a matinee idol
I wanna be an idle manatee
i think they let go of the rope pretty damn good
Doug Christie warming up in the bullpen
Please.
Not sure about a good product but it sure was entertaining. On to Texas.
go deeper into the bench from here on out
Don’t look now, but Kings are now No. 11 in the Western Conference.
Yes, but they’ve been in every game. And they’ve had the most impossible schedule in the history of the league. And injuries, And Covid.
They’ll make the play-in! And loose.
Jones > Metu
I think both still have the potential to be pretty good, although Jones is a center and Metu a power forward.
Damion Jones had a good game. Metu not so much.
What makes you say this? I thought Metu played well overall, just had that one really bad play at the end.
Metu missed shots, but that happens. He’ll make some, too.
Neither guy taking this team to the promised land. Monte needs to make a major deal, but I don’t think he’s got the cleverness to pull one off.
Who does he deal?
Fox, Barnes, Hield, draft picks. He’s got plenty of ammo to make a big deal.
Gut the team for one player?
Of course they won’t. They are role players. Why would you expect otherwise?
I think it is Metu for Lebron. That is the deal that for some reason the GM cannot get done.
That’s crazy! It’s almost always guys who were undrafted or second-round picks that lead their teams to the finals.
Okay, let me start over. In sports, players have different roles…
3…2….1…… here he mentions Nikola Jokic. LOL
Yep, those guys grow on trees.
Jokic is a really unique situation, no doubt. But he wasn’t a 2nd round pick even back in 2014 on talent, there was more to it than that.
No one looked at Jokic before that draft and thought, “some day this guy might a get a vote or two for MVP.”
Not a whole lot of dad bod on great basketball players these days.
Sure and that was a big part of it. Marc Gasol went into the 2nd round too.
When players are drafted and what they become are two different things.
It’s a credit to the Nuggets and Jokic that he’s been able to be so productive there over the longer term.
All I remember from Metu is the three times he was stripped going to the hoop, and the turnover at the end of the game that forfeited even a chance at winning. He played OK defensively.
They are both very inexperienced. Neither one did anything dumb to lose the game. That is good for both of them.
Did you see Metu muff the catch in our last opportunity to tie? That’s doing something dumb to lose the game in my world…
All he had to do was catch the pass, run out to the corner and hit a turnaround three to tie. What a mook!
start with catch the pass
He was the option they went with. Did not catch it. Haliburton missed the shot last night.
When he game comes down to desperation plays in the final seconds the players do what they can. Sometimes it doesn’t work out.
Growth happens when they play in those moments.
Metu +15, Jones +17
….and both ready to play against real competition.
Last season, I saw how quickly Jones moved his feet on defense, pretty good for a seven-footer. Hell, Whiteside was out of the league before he got his shit together, maybe Jones has enough talent and motivation to become a rotation guy.
Just a relief to see some actual players with skill earn minutes by competing for them.
You’re not sucking me into your leitmotif this evening.
Nothing tricky.
Actually nice to see the team play players based on competition to earn the minutes.
This team needs to learn how to compete at all levels.
Exciting run at the end of the game.
McConnell now Payne….hmm.
Derrick white or Murray next
Omfg…Barnes just said what we saw tonight was progress because they would have lost by 40 last season. Fml.
It’s not particularly uplifting, but it does have the benefit of being true.
Omfg…a man speaks in truths. How awful. FFS.
Davis had a very nice game, I hope he’s about to get rolling. Even when he’s tossing bricks, he still busts his ass on defense.
I was encouraged by Davis and Metu in particular today. Saw lots of good things from them both tonight.
Someone in the Kings organization finally figured out that zero points is ok if you play defense.
Maybe it is the new GM and his Ivy League education explaining negative numbers to the organization?
walton game takeaway
see guys, we are good enough to take the foot off the gas for a whole quarter and still be in it at the end.
The losses suck, but whatever it takes to get that tool bounced is worth going through. No real progress is possible while he’s on the bench.
At some point the players are going to start getting tired of no game plan or a dumb game plan.
They are working. Not going to put up with stupid forever.
And alas, they cut him off like the fool he is.
I was grateful for that. Must have been carrying it via WebEx.
I love this time of the year. I start getting mopey because I think I have to go to bed soon, and then it’s all, IT’S A QUARTER TO SEVEN, BITCH.”
This team is really going to start to gel around game 72.
I decided not to watch this game after the frustration from the Pacers loss. I think I dodged a bullet.
They should just give you the nuclear codes, your judgment is remarkable.
