Yeah, as you can see, “the game is really slowing down for him” and “he’s seeing the angles.”
Is he wrong? Do you not see an improved Bagley over the last 20 games as a whole compared to early in season? He plays more in the flow, less forcing, hitting jumpers etc. Perfect….obviously not. Still flaws. But if you don’t see him improving and game slowing down, then you aren’t watching.
Yeah, it was kind of obnoxious early in the season when Bagley was awful. Now it’s just Kings announcers being Kings announcers. These guys are all great!
I didn’t say Bagley hasn’t improved because he has, but Doug and Draper are so high on him it’s funny. The Bulls aren’t exactly good either.
He gets his put backs and one jumper per game. Great stuff for a back up center, sure.

Yeah I get it. The point is the guy plays his best half all season and people still shit can him. He can’t erase the first couple years, injuries, disappointment etc in one half, 10 games or even 30 games. But he has undeniably improved over the last 20 games or so. The hate on him is a bit exhausting and doesn’t seem no matter what he does people won’t acknowledge improvement. I don’t what he will be…but I’m still intrigued at this point and they aren’t getting great value for him so maybe just find out.

And you never acknowledge if he ever plays well. Ever. Take a walk over to basketball reference and check out Bosh, stoudemire, alridge stats from games about 83-103 of their career. Bags last twenty games. Strangely familiar to bags stats when you account for less mins he has. Will he turn out like those guys…likely not. But It is possible that he may prove to be a starting caliber player.

One that’s just a ridiculous take. Even if he only got putbacks, which he doesn’t, doing it at a good rate is a valuable skill. The #2 pick aspect has nothing to do with it now. He’s a team asset. The task is to determine his worth and future role. Whatever that may be. We know your position. It’s stated every single game regardless of play.

That is the only thing about his game that drives me nuts. It seems like he doesn’t adequately calm and set himself before the first free throw, because it seems like those are the ones that he most often misses.
But if I’d missed two in a row, I’d have the yips so bad for the third that I’d be luck to hit iron.
Bagley is such an enigma. But I think he’s a really talented pro if he could learn to execute consistently. Putting the words into numbers, I’d say I need him hitting 55-60% on his 2ptrs, and 35-37% on his 3ptrs. At 10 2s and 5 3s per night, he’s hitting about an EFG of 55% or so and hanging up 20-25 a night along with his usual 10 rebounds. If he can hit these numbers, and make his defense and passing close to league average, that’s a starting caliber stretch 4, right?

Why can’t this guy throw on 20 lbs and really figure the game out over the course of the next 3-5 years and become a regular all-star?
Him putting additional weight on his joints will slow him down, and likely lead to new injuries. Through work, he’ll get stronger, and he’ll add weight as he ages, but another twenty pounds for the sake of it is a terrible idea.
He’s a beanpole. Marcus Camby remined invisible sideways his entire career, but he managed to have a pretty good one.

Look, every single person on here wants Bagley to succeed but a lot of us aren’t going to get overly excited about this game and the homer comments about him are just ridiculous.
Nah, too many bitter Bagley faces that hate on him regardless of how he plays. Can’t really claim these kinds of people want him to succeed when they talk shit at every turn. Even with good or decent showings, it’s all negative talk.
I can respect that. I’ll try to be more positive and see the bright side.
Is it weird that I think Draper is an inferior PBP guy to Mark Jones, but he’s actually a better pairing with Doug?
Think I’m in the minority here but I think Doug has great charisma and basketball knowledge and that Mark Jones is corny as hell. Dude makes me cringe sometimes listening to certain calls.
I think that’s why I like Doug with Draper better, because Doug is way corny as well. He and Jones are like corny squared.

This is the Marvin Bagley that we’d hoped to see from the time he was selected. This past month, his court awareness and activity around the hoop have just been excellent. Games like this are feeling more expected, and less like surprises.
I feel comfortable saying that Marvin isn’t a terrible NBA player at this point. Whether he’ll ever be really good? Remains to be seen.

allthese trade ideas…”I’m not even against trading him if you were getting some value for him…but that’s not going to happen right now. So the point of selling on him at this point feels foolish.

Almost feels like we may be able to sign him at good value with upside? It will be interesting to see where things stand with him when his rookie deal is up. He’s a total wild card. May be a franchise cornerstone in 3-5 years, may be on someone else’s team in 30 days.
Give Bagley his credit: he’s still a ghost on defense but he’s learning how to play offense correctly.
He literally just altered Patrick Williams shot at the rim in help defense.
His defense has seemed solid against guys he matches up well with physically. At least makes me feel like the upside is there for him to be a decent defender across a spectrum of players with a little more work in the weight room
He inability to finish those easy basket just underneath the paint is still needs improvement (Although he always able to grab his own miss by his elite 2nd jump)
Has our announcing team ever called out how a lot of his offensive rebounds are just him grabbing his own misses at the rim? All I hear is praise about them and I’m like…
It’s a double edged sword statistically though. It would pad the rebounds but kills FG%.

There’s two reasons why there”s never any help. One, guys are hugging their players two and three passes away and two our on ball defenders are not forcing to the proper side which should be the baseline. Teams too easily switch the ball from one side of the court to the other on us. Just poor team defense fundamentals.

There’s a video of White on the night he was drafted, and as he was being interviewed, he overheard that one of his NC teammates had just been selected, and you could just see the joy come over him, even while he was already having a pretty good night.
That’s stayed with me for some reason.

This game looks competitive but really wasn’t. Aside from the opening bucket, the Bulls win wire to wire.

Before the winning streak, I was happy with competitive losses (for morale and entertainment) and development (for development). I abandoned the tankship during the winning streak but I’m on it again, so us losing this game isn’t that big of a deal considering the apparent development.
Buddy’s looked bad this season, but I still don’t know how I feel about trading him. I see him learning to expand his game too, even though he still makes a lot of doink plays.
The worst thing about this game is that the players don’t look like they care.
I seriously don’t understand why the intense love between Cojo and Walton? Cojo was not scoring much and clearly cannot stop Lavine so why not use Jeffries?
Coming in, I thought we had a chance to win. I’m not the least bit surprised that we lost.
Looking forward to see what we can get for Buddy, Barnes, Bjelica, Holmes, and parts at the deadline.
My thoughts
Bagley is starting to figure things out on both ends of the court. I’m not ready to declare victory but I think he has a decent chance to be a pretty good player.
Sometimes I feels nobody really understands how bad Buddy’s defense is. His on ball defense is atrocious, he doesn’t move his feet but instead bends and reaches, he rarely forces his player to the proper side which generally should be the baseline, and his on ball positioning is flat out terrible. As bad as his on ball defense is, he is even worse away from the ball. He hugs his player when he’s two and three passes away, he often has his back to the basketball, he’s never in good helping position, he never rotates properly to help the helper, and he leaves himself so susceptible to the back pick because of his poor positioning, other than that he’s pretty good. As hard as it is to believe for a NBA player but I truly believe he has no understanding of the basic concepts of team defense. He’s flat out confused and killing the Kings on defense. I don’t think fans pay enough attention to that side of the ball.
My only criticism of Haliburton is perhaps he’s too unselfish. He gets into the paint so efficiently but I’d like to see him finish more and giving up the ball less. He does have great vision and he’s by far the best skip passer on the team.
I realize second round picks are generally a long shot but can we find one that’s at least serviceable. Justin James just looks awful and I’m not hopeful that any of them can ever contribute. Why in the hell did we swap out Gary Trent jr. in a trade of second rounders.
We need a couple of hard nosed high energy physical players who like to defend like Dort, Beverly, Smart, Harrell, Green, etc. Give me a couple of players with some fight.
I’ve got an additional criticism of Haliburton. He needs to improve his man defense, both on ball and off ball. While he is super savvy and adept and playing the passing lanes, and has a knack for getting to loose balls, I’ve noticed that offensive players have exploited this at times where he loses sight of his man playing the lanes, leaving open backdoor cuts or easy shot wide open shot opportunities. There’s a difference between getting steals and deflections and playing solid defense making the offensive player work for everything they get. Butler, Beverly and those hard nosed players you mentioned are these kinds of guys, they’re going to be up in the offensive players face all game long, annoying the shit out of them, making them take tough shots. I’d like to see more of this kind of defense from Haliburton. I think he has the tools, and he looks to be the kind of player that wants to improve. This is an area that I think he can and will improve on over time.
