The Sacramento Kings kick off Summer League title defense today with their participation in the 2022 California Classic. The Classic has moved from Sacramento to San Francisco this year and will be played at the Chase Center.
The action starts with Lakers vs Heat at 2 PM PT, followed by the Kings against the Warriors at 4:30 PM PT. The Kings game will be shown on NBATV. This will be our first glimpse of Keegan Murray as a Sacramento King, as well as new Two-Way player Keon Ellis.

I’m excited to see Rhoden (32), Ellis (34), & Murray (13) of course. Also want to see if Coleman (23) has improved as he is a possible emergency call-up at PG should one of Fox and/or Mitchell get hurt.
Kings still desperately need a 3rd string PG. I’ve always though Mac McClung would be nice for that role, and he has looked good today.
OT: This means the Kings still have some change in their MLE left over from Monk and also have their full bi-annual exception of around $4M.

Nice start for Keegan. The reputation of getting his numbers by attrition is on full display. Death by a thousand cuts. Smart ancillary reads, active, attentive etc.
Hopefully if this game goes well he feels a little more assured flirting with usage and work off the dribble considering the level. But good half for him!

I’m sure my recollection has been dulled by time but I still remember Jimmer bringing the ball up and just before he got the ball to the center line 2 players

My way too early conclusion from one summer league game. Keegan is 4 and not a 3. He starts there and Barnes slides to the 3.
Who do you have at the 2? Monk or KH?
As of today, Huerter. He’s more proven and Monk has that microwave potential off the bench. Huerter also gives the team some excellent length, plus he’s a better defender.
I like your point but I’m thinking that Monk might be the best option to be in the starting lineup. Huerter makes a lot of sense as the 6 man because he slides into the SG and SF spots. Would seem to be a pretty sweet option as a head coach. If Barnes starts at the 3 and Monk starts at the 2 then Huerter can fit into either position depending matchups or foul trouble from either of this starters.
Feels pretty cool to have a head coach that knows what he’s doing. Monk or Huerter as the sixth man is a luxury. For that matter, Davion is a pretty awesome option as well. Liking this roster a lot. Worried about losing Barnes for nothing but the idea of Barnes being the 5th option in our starting lineup is pretty cool.

I’m guessing that we will see a lot of Fox, Davi, Huerter & Monk in various 3-man presentations. I think Huerter’s going to get a lot of time at “SF” when the matchups present themselves. And Barnes & Murray together when the wings are bigger, and maybe even some Sabs/Holmes against big front lines.
Yeah, I think we’ll see lots of different combinations, which is a good thing! Huerter will definitely get minutes at the 3. I’m just not sure I see Keegan as 3. That means, I don’t see. Sabonis, Metu/Lyles and Murray front-line much. He’s a stretch 4 and a small ball 5 before he’s a 3.

I love seeing the Kings ball movement and playmaking under Jordi here. 20 assists 10 turnovers, to the Warriors 7 and 14. Hoping that is something we see with the main squad- good teamwork with Fox bailouts if we absolutely need.
Was thinking that too. The schemes offensively are favoring some nice ball movement.
Huerter fits well in that regard, with Fox, Sabonis, Barnes and Murray.
O’Connell has some scrappiness to him. Would love to see him get a camp invite.

Not a lot of NBA talent in the opposition (especially without Moody or Kuminga), but all that aside Keegan did his thing impressively. Removed of all the draft talk, and longterm questions, just a really fun and cerebral player (definitely akin with my own aesthetics). Excited to watch him and this squad here and in Vegas.
The one word I have for Murray is effortless. This guy is a smooth operator.
